11 Autumn TV Series To Cozy Up With
Gilmore Girls
In the rare case that you’re not familiar with “Gilmore Girls”, the TV series follows the lives of single mom Lorelai Gilmore and her daughter Rory in the charming town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut. We see them navigate life, relationships, school, and work, while trying to maintain the close bond they’re known for.
If you want to set the mood for fall, “Gilmore Girls” is a great choice. The show often features cozy New England fall scenery, such as changing leaves, pumpkins, and seasonal festivals in Stars Hollow. The series’ small-town setting only adds to the coziness we look for during autumn.
Charmed
“Charmed” (1998-2006) follows the lives of three sisters—Prue, Piper, and Phoebe Halliwell (later also Paige Matthews)—who discover they are powerful witches known as the Charmed Ones. They use their magical abilities to protect the world from evil forces like demons, warlocks, and dark magic. Each sister has her own unique power: Prue can move objects with her mind, Piper can freeze time, Phoebe can see the future, and Paige can teleport and summon objects by calling out their names.
This is another great addition to the autumn TV series list. The show has a mystical, witchy vibe that fits well with the season, especially around Halloween. Its focus on magic, spells, and supernatural battles gives it a spooky, cozy feel that’s perfect for fall viewing.
F.R.I.E.N.D.S.
Surely there’s not a single soul here who doesn’t know what “Friends” is about. While not particularly set in the fall, the show’s warm and cozy vibe, with its iconic Central Perk coffee shop scenes and close-knit group of friends, fits well with the autumn atmosphere.
In addition, there are several episodes about Thanksgiving that are perfect for the season. They are filled with humor, heartwarming moments, and themes of friendship and family. Watching the group’s holiday antics—whether it’s Ross’s “Moist Maker” sandwich or Monica’s competitive spirit—adds a comforting, nostalgic feel, making it a perfect series to enjoy during fall.
Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina
“The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” (2018-2020) follows Sabrina Spellman, a half-witch, half-mortal teen who must battle with dark forces. Set in the town of Greendale, Sabrina faces her 16th birthday, when she must choose between embracing her witch heritage or maintaining her mortal connections with her friends and boyfriend. As she battles supernatural threats, Sabrina also confronts dark family secrets and the temptations of power, all while balancing the ordinary struggles of being a teenager.
This TV series is a great choice for the season due to its spooky and supernatural themes. We have witches, dark magic, haunted settings, gothic aesthetics, and the show’s exploration of the occult, all of which create an eerie atmosphere that goes well with Halloween.
Wednesday
“Wednesday” (2022) centers on Wednesday Addams as she attends Nevermore Academy, a school for outcasts. While there, she struggles to master her psychic abilities and solve a supernatural mystery involving her parents’ past. At the same time, Wednesday must stop a killing spree terrorizing the local town. The series blends dark humor, horror, and coming-of-age elements as Wednesday navigates school, friendships, and her peculiar family legacy.
If you haven’t seen this show yet, now would be the perfect time. The series features mysterious murders, eerie locations like Nevermore Academy (filmed in Romania), and Wednesday’s macabre personality, which fit well with the season.
A Discovery of Witches
“A Discovery of Witches” (2018–2022) is a fantasy drama series based on the All Souls trilogy by Deborah Harkness. The story revolves around Diana Bishop, a historian and witch, who discovers a magical manuscript that pulls her into a world of supernatural creatures. She teams up with Matthew Clairmont, a vampire, to unlock the secrets of the book while navigating their forbidden romance. Together, they face threats from witches, vampires, and daemons who all seek the manuscript’s power.
If you’re in the mood for magic, witchcraft, vampire shows, ancient mysteries, historical locations like old libraries and cathedrals, and some spooky forests, “A Discovery of Witches” has it all. Not to mention the additional romantic element which keeps viewers more engaged.
Good Witch
“Good Witch” (2015–2021) follows Cassie Nightingale, a kind-hearted enchantress, and her teenage daughter, Grace, who possess magical abilities. They live in the charming town of Middleton, where Cassie uses her intuition and magic to help her neighbors navigate life’s challenges.
What’s interesting about this series is that it’s not the straightforward type of magic we see in other shows, like “Charmed”. But there’s always this mysterious and magical aura around the main characters. The small-town charm, feel-good romance, and seasonal festivities make “Good Witch” a cozy TV show to watch in autumn.
The Worst Witch
“The Worst Witch” (2017-present) presents Mildred Hubble, a young witch at Cackle’s Academy. Mildred is not like the other girls. She’s clumsy and chaotic and often causes trouble for herself or the other girls. But at least she has her two best friends, Maud and Enid, with whom she can navigate her magical education.
This show is a lighthearted approach to magic and friendship, and also great for watching with your family, kids included.
Virgin River
In “Virgin River” (2019–present), nurse practitioner Melinda Monroe moves to the small town of Virgin River to start fresh after personal tragedies. As she adjusts to life in the tight-knit community, Mel makes peace with her past, builds relationships with locals, and develops a complicated romance with Jack Sheridan, a former Marine and the owner of a local bar.
Thanks to its cozy small-town vibes, romantic storylines, and themes of healing and community, “Virgin River” is a great choice for snuggling up with a blanket as the weather cools down.
Supernatural
“Supernatural” (2005–2020) follows brothers Sam and Dean Winchester as they hunt demons, ghosts, monsters, and other supernatural beings. Raised by their father to track evil after their mother’s mysterious death, they travel across the country solving paranormal cases. Over time, they face greater threats, including angels, Lucifer, and even God.
The show’s supernatural themes and emotional storytelling make it ideal for cozy fall nights. Plus, with 15 seasons, there’s plenty of content to enjoy throughout autumn.
The Fall
The Fall (2013-2016) is an impressive crime drama TV series set in Northern Ireland, starring Gillian Anderson (as Detective Superintendent Stella Gibson) and Jamie Dornan (as serial killer Paul Spector). The series starts with Detective Stella Gibson being tasked with catching a serial killer, Paul Spector, in Belfast. While Spector lives a double life as a family man and murderer, Gibson unravels his crimes in a tense cat-and-mouse dynamic.
This is a dark and intense show with great suspense and storytelling. In addition, the deep exploration of the characters’ psyche makes it ideal for those who enjoy darker thrillers during the cooler, quieter months.
